All I know is that if they don't fix this I am going to have to consider buying a cheap Windows or Chrome laptop just for use with GD video files- which would leave me feeling less than happy, to say the least, about my recent 2k purchase.Get high-quality surround sound when you buy the DTS-HD® Plug-in for DivX Software (or DivX Pro). I can't think of any rationale for Apple to have done this other than, perhaps, to intentionally destroy the exact functionality that had made Google Drive so vastly superior to iCloud for these purposes. Video files now download to 'sync' rather than simply streaming (as they still do with Catalina), which means that for a large video file, I have to wait up to 10 minutes for the file to be cached in its entirety on my HD before it will even begin to play. On the M1 with Monterey, however, GD is now essentially wrecked. I use Google Drive mostly for big video files, which continue to stream just fine on the older machine GD runs, as you said, like an external HD.

I have an 2021 M1 Macbook pro with Monterey 12.4 and a late 2013 pro running Catalina. Having the same problem here, and finding it very problematic.

My workplace iMac specs: iMac late 2015 Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7 My personal Mac specs: Macbook Pro 2019 16" Mac OS Monterey 12.3.1 It used to work exactly like an external hdd.Ĭomparatively, I am running my office GSuite Google Drive using the Google Drive Desktop in my office iMac, just my work account and nothing else, the Google Drive works fine and did not behave in that manner I've described. This isn't how Google Drive was behaving before. If I copy and paste the file instead of just dragging an dropping, Google Drive desktop app would show that the file is available offline. On the reverse, when I drag and drop any files from my Google Drive onto my Mac (basically, cloud to local), the file is then automatically deleted off my Google Drive. However, whenever I drag and drop my files via Finder, doing so automatically deletes my local copy of the file.

Before then, I could just drag and drop my files onto my Google Drive freely via my Finder and it'll upload itself. ALL my 3 Google Drive accounts are set to stream my files over the cloud and NOT synced to my desktop. Recently, I've noticed some weird behaviours with the app.

I currently run 2 personal Google Drive account and 1 Gsuite Google Drive account on my Mac using the Google Drive desktop app.
